The voices of New Yorkers affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic will be heard daily as part of a new program installed in Greenwich Village. In recognition of World AIDS Day on Tuesday, the New York City AIDS Memorial will launch a sound-based installation composed of speeches, poetry, music, and readings of texts related to the history of the epidemic.

December 1st marks World AIDS Day — and amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the NYC AIDS Memorial installed the most ambitious program since the memorial was founded as a grassroots activist advocacy effort in early 2011.

For World Aids Day, a new audio project will play important speeches and clips that catalogue the ongoing fight against HIV/Aids.

On December 1st, the World AIDS Day, New York City AIDS Memorial is installing Hear Me: Voices of the Epidemic, a daily, hour-long outdoor sound installation composed of historical texts, poetry, speeches, music, and more that capture the history of the AIDS epidemic.

The Times’s Julia Carmel writes: As Manhattan’s streets fall quiet for the winter, a new installation will bring life to the New York City AIDS Memorial in Greenwich Village.

The New York City AIDS Memorial is observing World AIDS Day on December 1 with two projects, including a month-long nightly program at the site of the memorial that will also feature a lighting display.

On October 1, 2020 the New York City AIDS Memorial was proud to partner with the John Giorno Foundation, Brooklyn Rail, Karma Bookstore, and Farrar, Straus & Giroux to present the launch of Giorno’s new memoir, Great Demon Kings. The socially-distanced evening of readings and remarks included appearances by Phong Bui, Penny Arcade, Elizabeth Kley, Jamison Fitzpatrick, Lee Ranaldo, and Leah Singer among others.

Artist Jenny Holzer and Avant Arte launched a limited edition on July 29, 2020, called URGE AND URGE AND URGE in collaboration with the New York City AIDS Memorial in a campaign to raise awareness of the ongoing fight against AIDS and funds to support the Memorial’s operations and programs.

The New York City AIDS Memorial is thrilled to host an installation – Let Equality Bloom – at the Memorial for NYC Pride Weekend. Nearly 40 years later, in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and massive blood shortages, the FDA continues these policies for donating.

On World AIDS Day, the NYC AIDS Memorial launched its Arts and Education Initiative, with an interactive art experience, created in collaboration with artist Jenny Holzer.
